Values

Design

Design is more than just a pretty image that stimulates your eyes.

I have been designing since 2001 and I know that good design has a clear message to all who look upon it. When creating your logo or website, every detail is thought out to make sure that your end result best represents you, your product, and your company.

Development

Anything of high quality is well crafted from concept to execution, and I believe websites are no different. I enjoy building websites with hand-typed code because it allows me to fine-tune at any level and deliver the best product I can envision. Sure there are drag’n’drop page builders and one-click set-ups that one can use to build there site, but quite often those apps don’t allow you to get down to the lower level and the result looks generic and uncoherent. It’s the difference between hand-sculpting a unique creation versus creating a statue out of a mold.

Communication

Communication is key. I believe keeping in touch with my clients is important for building trust as well as having that open window for feedback; which I believe will always result in a product my clients can be very satisfied with. There’s always room for improvement or trying out new features but having that comfortableness and confidence to discuss it is fundamental.

Tech Toolbox

Languages & Frameworks

I write HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Ruby, amongst many others these are my favorite to create fully functional application and websites. I enjoy using frameworks such as BridgetownRB, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, Hanami, and I’ll use TailwindCSS, AlpineJS, StimulusJS, and ReactJS if the project calls for it, but my heart is with vanilla JavaScript, CSS, and HTML if I can or if the project doesn’t need to be overly complicated.

I’m extremely comfortable with the command line and navigating/working with Vim and Git in the terminal.

DevOps

These days I tend to look for the simplest way to deploy my static Bridgetown sites or Rails apps so I’ll opt for Heroku or Render and run my deploy commands. If I work with WordPress I like to deploy the theme via git so I can stay on the command line as much as possible. I’ll do what I can to not rely on third-party apps or services if I can help it.

With that being said, I have manually setup own Linux servers and manually compiled languages like Ruby, PHP, etc. and configured web servers such as Apache and Nginx and databases such PostgreSQL and MySQL.

Software & Hardware

The hardware I use currently are Apple products. I have a 2020 13” Macbook Pro with a 2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 processor with 16GB of RAM. I also have an iPad Pro with the M1 chip and Apple Pencil.

For coding I use Vim + Tmux with Kitty terminal and I’ll debug with the 5 popular browsers: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Chrome. I use Adobe’s Creative Suite for illustrating logos, art, and creating mockups or layouts. Procreate is my app of choice for digital painting and Concepts for brainstorming.
